Brownsea Island
There are several islands in the middle of Poole harbour the largest being Brownsea Island, famous for being the site of the first camp (1907) that became the International Scout Movement. The island is owned by The National Trust and open to visitors who explore the islands heritage and wildlife, including the indigenous red squirrel population.
In summer evenings, The Brownsea Open Air Theatre Company hold productions of Shakespeare’s famous plays in atmospheric surroundings.
The island can be reached by a number of public ferries from Poole Quay arriving at the landing stage and small dock by the main castle.
